Statement by Ruslan Varankov, Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, in connection with the U.S. President's letter to Alexander Lukashenko
19.01.2026The Belarusian side received a personal letter from the President of the United States of America, Mr. Donald J. Trump, addressed to the President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko.
In the letter, Belarus is invited to become a Founding Member State of the Peace Council – a new international organization.
We highly appreciate that the American side views Belarus – and it is clearly stated in the letter – as a nation ready to shoulder the noble responsibility of building lasting peace, to lead by example, and to invest in a secure and prosperous future for generations to come.
We also view this proposal as recognition of the personal achievements and international clout of the Head of the Belarusian state.
The proposal has been communicated to the President of the Republic of Belarus, and has been positively received.
Our stand is as follows: we are ready to participate in the activities of the Board of Peace, recognizing and hoping that this organization will expand its scope and authority far beyond the mandate proposed in the initiative. This will allow it to actively participate in global processes aimed to resolving all international conflicts, which will ultimately contribute to the construction of a new security architecture that Belarus has been actively promoting over the recent years.
