Visit to the U.S. of the Director of the Department of Humanitarian Activity


On the initiative of the Embassy of Belarus in the U.S., on November 8-9, 2018, Valery Skakun, Director of the Department of Humanitarian Activity of the Directorate of Affairs of the President of the Republic of Belarus, visited the United States.  

The visit was aimed at discussing with the U.S. humanitarian community the ways of optimizing the attraction of foreign charitable assistance to the Republic of Belarus.  

The central event of the visit was a thematic discussion held on November 9 with representatives of 11 U.S. charitable organizations, U.S. Department of State and U.S. Agency for International Development. Valery Skakun outlined Belarus’s approaches to receiving, registering and distributing humanitarian aid, noted the potential for cooperation with American organizations, answered questions of the participants.  




A ceremony was held for signing of the Memorandum of Agreement with CitiHope on the supply of medicines for healthcare institutions of the Republic of Belarus. Leading U.S. charitable organizations received awards of the Department. 



On November 9, Valery Skakun met with Bradley Freden, Director of the Office of Eastern European Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, to discuss participation of the U.S. Department of State and U.S. government agencies in implementing of humanitarian programs in Belarus.
