On March 2-4, 2017 Charge d’Affaires, a.i. of Belarus in the U.S. Pavel Shidlovsky visited New England.
In Cambridge, MA the Chief of Mission took part in Harvard University European Conference. Pavel Shidlovsky was invited to take part in The EU-Russia Relationship panel as speaker and panelist. The panel was moderated by Nicholas Burns, former U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs and former U.S. Ambassador to NATO. About 150 persons took part in the panel, including representatives of the EU and European countries.
Making his introductory remarks and answering questions of the moderator and audience, the Charge d’Affaires spoke about main foreign policy directions of Belarus, progress in Belarus’ relations with the U.S. and EU, the role of Belarus in regional security, Belarus’ participation in resolving the crisis in Ukraine, counterproductive nature of the use of sanctions in international affairs.
The Charge d’Affaires met the leadership of Massachusetts Office of International Trade & Investment, established contacts with Belarusian students studying in Harvard and Suffolk Universities to discuss in detail further development of contacts with Massachusetts in trade, education and science.
During the meeting with representatives of Connecticut Office of International and Domestic Business Development in Hartford, CT, the Charge d’Affaires presented the opportunities of cooperation with Belarus, discussed possible avenues of engagement with the state, including through entities promoting business contacts with foreign countries.
