National Day Reception at the Embassy of Belarus

On June 27, 2017 the Embassy of Belarus in the U.S. held diplomatic reception on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and the U.S. and on the occasion of the Belarus Independence Day.

Over 100 people took part in the reception, including officials from Senate and House of Representatives of U.S. Congress, State Department, Department of Commerce, Office of U.S. Trade Representative, other U.S. Government agencies, heads of think tanks, businessmen, members of diplomatic corps, Belarusian diaspora, and media. From the Department of State took part and spoke Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Bridget Brink.

Among the most distinguished guests were Acting Chief of Protocol of the United States Rosemarie Pauli, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce Holly Vineyard, Mission Chief for Belarus of the IMF Peter Dohlman, World Jewish Congress CEO and EVP Robert Singer, Honorary Consuls of Belarus in Texas Geert Visser and in Florida Mikhail Morgulis.

During the event, Charge d’Affaires, a.i. of Belarus Pavel Shidlovsky addressed the audience and spoke about the milestones of sovereign development of Belarus, main foreign policy achievements of the country, contribution of Belarus to international security, international events held in Minsk, results of normalization of Belarus – U.S. relations.

The special edition of the US-Belarus Observer Magazine, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations, was presented to the participants of the event.

Bridget Brink in her statement congratulated Belarus on Independence Day on behalf of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and reaffirmed support of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and prosperity of Belarus. The American diplomat expressed appreciation for the leadership of Belarus in peaceful settlement of the crisis in Ukraine, contribution to international security. In the statement were also noted the creation of a solid foundation for Belarus – U.S. engagement during the 25 years of relations and progress in developing cooperation over the several years. A hope was expressed for future joint steps in economy, politics, and combating terrorism.

The official ceremony was followed by a concert of Belarusian songs performed by Sviatoslav Jarmolenko and Alla Sandler, Belarusian musicians residing in the U.S.
